What cleans the brain?

The brain doesn’t like waste products floating around. The cerebrospinal fluid cleanses the brain by removing waste products that build up there. When the cerebrospinal fluid is clear, the brain is clean.

The fluid flows from the ventricles into the meninges (the membranes covering the brain) where it flows out of the skull. The cerebrospinal fluid contains sodium ions and chloride ions. It has the same electrical properties as blood plasma.

The movement of these ions through the brain gives our Ibogaine treatment centers a sense of awareness, and they maintain the acidity that supports the chemical reactions needed for communication between the cells. In humans, the volume of cerebrospinal fluid is roughly two to three times that of blood.

It is produced by the choroid plexus, located in the ventricles of the brain, and secreted into the third ventricle. CSF is produced continuously at a rate of about four quarts per day. CSF is reabsorbed from the ventricles into the bloodstream at the arachnoid villi.

CSF flow stops momentarily during the sleep cycle. The flow of cerebrospinal fluid is regulated by many factors. The most important is the level of pressure inside the ventricles.
